Our Approach
 Current LRI initiatives focus on Closing The Learning Divide for under-prepared, and or, economically disadvantaged pre-college and college students. LRI will build upon the proven and highly successful methodologies developed by Dr. Steve Truch who has diagnosed and treated reading and math deficiencies for over three decades and established The Reading Foundation (Calgary, Canada) in 1990. Dr. Truch and his skilled trainers are an integral part of the LRI program (see the description of the LRI/Reading Foundation Partnership. Dr. Truch’s Discover Reading, Discover Meaning, and Discover Math Programs (also described in the LRI/Reading Foundation Partnership) markedly and quickly enhance the skill levels of students struggling in these areas. LRI is on track to develop a prototype clinic around Dr. Truch’s programs and administer the clinic to small groups of students. Dr. Truch’s experienced trainers will train new instructors who, upon completing their training, will participate in a summer 2011 practicum under the tutelage of Dr. Truch’s trainers. Such a Model Clinic is being proposed in partnership with the Whitacre College of Engineering at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX. This innovative training and instruction clinic model will be the first such in the United States. Students will be selected based on diagnostic testing to identify those with high potential, but who are struggling with learning process weaknesses in reading, reading comprehension and understanding of math concepts. All students will participate in an intensive six-week intervention program. |
